Cherry Creek State Park engagement session for Melanie and Kyle featuring their dog Ivy!

Melanie and Kyle, along with their dog Ivy, were so much fun to photograph! When planning their session, we chose Cherry Creek State Park not only for its fantastic location but also for its diverse landscapes. We captured beautiful wetlands and sunlit walking trails, and we concluded the session with a dance on the muddy beach during a stunning sunset. I always get excited when couples include their pets in their sessions; it makes the experience more enjoyable and personal. Melanie and Kyle brought their dog Ivy, and I must admit, I’m a bit biased about her name! She was such a good girl, and her expressions and ears were absolutely adorable. A special shout-out to her auntie, who babysat her while I photographed her mom and dad.

Here are some tips for bringing your dog to your engagement session:

-Choose the Right Location: Pick a place that is dog-friendly and has plenty of space for your pup to roam. Parks with diverse landscapes, like Cherry Creek State Park, are ideal for capturing beautiful photos.

-Bring Supplies: Make sure to bring along essentials like water, a portable bowl, treats, and waste bags. This will keep your dog comfortable and happy throughout the shoot.

-Practice Commands: If your dog knows basic commands like “sit,” “stay,” or “come,” practice these before the session. Having your dog familiar with these commands will help during the shoot.

-Include Another Handler: Consider bringing a friend or family member to help manage your dog while you focus on getting the perfect shots. This person can also step in to hold the dog when needed.

-Plan for Breaks: Dogs can get tired quickly, especially in a new environment. Allow for breaks during your session to let them rest and rehydrate.

-Be Flexible: Pets can be unpredictable, so be prepared to go with the flow. If your dog isn’t cooperating for a particular shot, don’t stress—just move on to something else!

-Dress for Success: Consider coordinating outfits that complement your dog’s appearance. Whether it’s a bowtie for your pup or matching colors for your outfits, thoughtful styling can make your photos even more memorable.

By keeping these tips in mind, you can ensure a fun and enjoyable experience for both you and your furry friend during your engagement session!
