Anne & Joey’s Not-So-Secret Denver Courthouse Elopement | Downtown Denver & Cheesman Park Wedding Photos
Some elopements are carefully kept under wraps, and others are a little less secret than planned! Anne and Joey’s Denver courthouse elopement was the perfect reminder that getting married doesn’t have to mean a huge production, a packed wedding venue, or months of complicated planning. Sometimes, all you need is the person you love, a little adventure, your favorite four-legged companion, and a plan to make it official. Their wedding day was full of sweet moments, exploring downtown Denver, and, of course, plenty of time for photos with their adorable dog, Saint. From exchanging vows with a judge on the Denver courthouse steps to wandering around the Colorado State Capitol and ending our adventure at beautiful Cheesman Park, their elopement was such a fun way to celebrate their marriage.
Getting Married on the Denver Courthouse Steps
There is something special about a courthouse wedding. It strips away the pressure of a traditional wedding day and puts the focus right where it belongs: on two people choosing to spend their lives together. Anne and Joey chose to get married with a judge on the steps of the Denver courthouse, creating a meaningful and memorable beginning to their marriage right in the heart of the city. The courthouse architecture provided a beautiful backdrop for their ceremony and wedding portraits, with the historic building adding a timeless feel to their photographs.
And honestly, I love that they chose to do things their own way! A Denver courthouse elopement can be just as meaningful and beautiful as a large traditional wedding. There is no single right way to get married, and Anne and Joey's day was a wonderful example of how much personality and joy you can fit into a simple celebration.
As a Denver wedding and elopement photographer, I love helping couples create a wedding experience that feels authentic to them. Whether that means a full wedding day at a Colorado venue or an intimate courthouse ceremony downtown, the goal is always the same: capturing the moments that make your relationship yours.
Exploring Downtown Denver for Wedding Portraits
After their ceremony, we took advantage of the beautiful downtown Denver scenery for wedding portraits. One of my favorite things about photographing a Denver courthouse elopement is how much variety you can find within a relatively small area.
Downtown Denver offers a mix of historic architecture, city streets, interesting textures, and iconic Colorado landmarks. You can have elegant architectural portraits one moment and fun, candid images surrounded by the energy of the city the next.
We wandered through downtown, capturing photographs that celebrated Anne and Joey as newlyweds while making the most of their surroundings. I love giving couples a little room to relax after their ceremony, enjoy being married, and simply spend time together while I document the experience.
We also made our way to the Colorado State Capitol building for more portraits. The Capitol is one of Denver's most recognizable landmarks, and its impressive architecture makes a wonderful backdrop for wedding and elopement photography.
Including the Colorado State Capitol in their portraits gave Anne and Joey another distinctly Denver location to remember their wedding day. These are some of the things I love most about an urban elopement: you don't have to choose just one backdrop when the city has so many beautiful places to explore!
A Quick Trip to Make It Official
One of the most memorable parts of Anne and Joey's wedding day was how naturally everything unfolded. After their ceremony and downtown portraits, we literally walked over to the clerk's office to register their marriage license.
I love these little behind-the-scenes details because they tell the story of the day beyond the traditional wedding photographs. Their elopement wasn't just about posing for portraits or exchanging vows. It was about taking care of the real-life details of getting married, enjoying the adventure together, and celebrating each little milestone along the way.
There is something pretty wonderful about walking through downtown Denver as newlyweds, knowing that you've just started an entirely new chapter together. It was such a fun, relaxed way to experience their wedding day, and it made their elopement feel personal and genuine.
For couples considering a Denver courthouse wedding, I always encourage you to think about what you want your day to look like beyond the ceremony itself. Maybe you want to explore downtown, stop for a celebratory meal, visit a favorite park, or spend the afternoon taking photographs in places you love. An elopement gives you the freedom to create a day that feels like an adventure rather than a checklist of wedding traditions.
Ending Their Denver Elopement at Cheesman Park with Saint
Of course, no recap of Anne and Joey's wedding day would be complete without mentioning Saint!
After exploring downtown Denver and visiting the Capitol, we headed to Cheesman Park for more wedding portraits with their adorable dog. If you know me, you know that including beloved pets in wedding photographs is such a wonderful way to make the experience even more personal.
Pets are family, and I love when couples make room for them on their wedding day. Saint was part of Anne and Joey's story, so having him join us for photographs was the perfect way to finish their elopement adventure.
Cheesman Park is a beautiful Denver location for wedding and engagement portraits, with its open green spaces, mature trees, and gorgeous views of the surrounding city. It offers a different atmosphere from the architecture of downtown, allowing for a more relaxed and natural feel in photographs.
Moving from the courthouse and city streets to the park gave us a lovely variety of images from their day. We could capture the classic Denver city scenery, the grand architecture of the Capitol, and those sweet, personal moments with Saint all in one elopement.
And really, what better way to celebrate getting married than spending the day with your favorite person and your favorite dog?
Why I Love Photographing Denver Courthouse Elopements
Anne and Joey's wedding is a perfect example of why I love intimate weddings and elopements. There was no need for an elaborate timeline or a long list of formalities. Instead, we had a ceremony, explored the city, took care of the marriage paperwork, visited beautiful locations, and made time for their dog.
Denver is an excellent place for couples who want an intimate wedding experience with plenty of opportunities for beautiful photographs. The courthouse, downtown streets, Colorado State Capitol, and Cheesman Park each offer something different, making it possible to create a varied gallery without traveling far between locations.
As a Colorado wedding photographer, I love helping couples make the most of their wedding day, no matter how big or small their plans may be. If you're dreaming of a courthouse wedding, an intimate Colorado elopement, or a simple ceremony followed by an afternoon exploring Denver, there are so many ways to make it special.
You don't need a ballroom, hundreds of guests, or an elaborate wedding day timeline to create memories worth preserving. You just need a day that feels right for the two of you.
Anne and Joey, thank you for letting me be part of your not-so-secret elopement! Your day was such a fun reminder that sometimes the best wedding plans are the ones that leave room for a little spontaneity, a lot of love, and a very adorable dog.
Congratulations to you both!
