Kit & Nathan’s Wedding at the Grand Humphreys Mansion

Some wedding days are filled with elaborate details and carefully choreographed moments, while others are simply about being surrounded by the people you love and enjoying every second of it. Kit and Nathan’s wedding at the Grand Humphreys Mansion was beautifully, authentically them joyful, intimate, and full of meaningful family moments.

Kit is from Colorado, while Nathan grew up in Maryland. Their paths eventually crossed in Washington, D.C., where they now call home with their cat and dog. After getting engaged in December at Copper Mountain, they were excited to return to Colorado to celebrate their August wedding surrounded by family and friends.

Their wedding ceremony took place on the beautiful steps of the Grand Humphreys Mansion. With the historic mansion as their backdrop, Kit and Nathan exchanged rings and shared their vows, with Kit’s brother serving as their officiant. Having someone so close to them guide them through such an important moment made the ceremony feel even more personal. One of the things that stood out most about their wedding was how intentionally Kit and Nathan made the day feel like them. There was no pressure to create a wedding that looked like someone else’s idea of perfect. Instead, the focus was on their relationship, their families, and simply enjoying the day together.

The florals were another incredibly personal touch. Nathan’s sister-in-law, Morgan created all of the floral arrangements for the wedding, and they were absolutely beautiful. Each arrangement added to the relaxed elegance of the day while still feeling thoughtful and personal.

And then came a surprise that nobody was going to forget! During the reception, Nathan’s family surprised the couple with traditional Chinese dragon dancers. The energy completely shifted as the dancers made their way through the celebration, creating one of those unexpected, joyful moments that makes a wedding day so memorable.

As their photographer, I wanted to preserve that same authenticity throughout their portraits. Rather than forcing everything into perfectly posed moments, I focused on capturing Kit and Nathan as they actually were with their families, with each other, laughing, celebrating, and simply being present.

From their intimate ceremony on the mansion steps to the surprise dragon dancers at the reception, Kit and Nathan’s wedding was a beautiful reminder that the best wedding days aren't necessarily about following traditions perfectly. They're about creating a day that feels like you and Kit and Nathan did exactly that. I am extremely lucky to get such amazing couples that trust me with their vision as well as love my style of photography, so the two can come together in perfect harmony.
