Katherine & Andrew’s Spooky, Romantic Stanley Hotel Wedding in Estes Park, Colorado

If you're dreaming of a unique wedding at The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado, Katherine and Andrew's wedding is the perfect inspiration! Their spooky, romantic Stanley Hotel wedding was filled with gothic details, meaningful family traditions, incredible music, and so much love. As a Colorado wedding photographer, I absolutely adore couples who embrace their personalities and create a wedding day that feels authentically them. From The Shining ceremony programs to ceramic ghosts, black candles, and dramatic nighttime wedding portraits, every detail of their Stanley Hotel wedding was unforgettable.

A Unique Wedding at The Stanley Hotel

The Stanley Hotel is one of Colorado's most iconic historic wedding venues, and its distinctive architecture and spooky reputation made it the perfect setting for Katherine and Andrew's celebration. They embraced the hotel's eerie charm while incorporating elegant florals, romantic candlelight, and personal details throughout their wedding ceremony and reception. One of my favorite details was having a copy of The Shining on every guest's ceremony chair. Even better, each book included a timeline of the wedding day's events! It was such a clever way to incorporate the hotel's famous connection to the story while giving guests something useful to enjoy. The spooky theme continued throughout the reception with adorable ceramic ghosties and crows, black candles, votives, and stunning flowers hanging from the reception candelabras. Every detail worked together beautifully to create a moody, romantic atmosphere that felt right at home at The Stanley Hotel. If you're planning a spooky wedding at The Stanley Hotel, Katherine and Andrew are proof that you can embrace the venue's haunted history while creating an elegant and personal celebration.

A Wedding Dress With a Sentimental Family Connection

One of the most meaningful details of Katherine's wedding day was the lace from her mother's wedding gown incorporated into her own dress. The lace was used on the sleeves and along the waistline, creating a beautiful connection between two generations. I love when couples include family heirlooms in their wedding attire because these personal details hold so much meaning beyond their appearance. Katherine's wedding dress was gorgeous, and knowing that it included pieces of her mother's gown made it even more special. These are the kinds of details I love capturing as a Colorado wedding photographer because they preserve not only how a wedding looked but also the stories and memories behind it.

A Meaningful Unity Ceremony at The Stanley Hotel

Katherine and Andrew's wedding ceremony was made even more personal by having a very close friend officiate. Having someone who knows and loves you both lead your ceremony adds such a meaningful touch to a wedding day. They also incorporated a beautiful unity ceremony by pouring different colors of glass into one vessel. The glass will eventually be transformed into another creation they can enjoy for years to come, giving them a lasting keepsake from their Stanley Hotel wedding. I love seeing couples choose meaningful alternatives to traditional unity ceremonies. It's a wonderful way to create something that represents their relationship and reminds them of the promises they made on their wedding day.

A Gothic Wedding Reception With Candles, Florals, and Pie

The reception continued the spooky romantic aesthetic with black candles, glowing votives, and gorgeous floral arrangements hanging from the candelabras. The combination of dark accents and elegant flowers created a stunning atmosphere for their Stanley Hotel wedding reception. And instead of a traditional wedding cake, Katherine and Andrew served FOUR different kinds of pie! I absolutely love this idea. Wedding traditions are wonderful, but couples should feel free to celebrate in ways that reflect their personalities. Whether you're planning a gothic wedding, a spooky mountain wedding, or an elegant celebration at The Stanley Hotel, personal touches like these make your wedding memorable. Four different pies also mean guests have plenty of delicious options, which sounds like a pretty fantastic way to celebrate!

Incredible Music, a Packed Dance Floor, and So Much Love

As much as I loved photographing all the details, the people surrounding Katherine and Andrew were one of the best parts of their wedding day. These two are absolutely amazing humans, and it's easy to see why they have such an incredible group of friends and family who love them to their core. Their wedding reception was full of laughter, dancing, and people celebrating together. They also have fantastic taste in music! I absolutely adored the songs played throughout the reception, and watching everyone dance and sing at the top of their lungs was a highlight of the evening. As a wedding photographer serving Denver, Estes Park, and the Colorado mountains, I love capturing these genuine moments. The candid laughter, spontaneous dancing, and joyful reactions are just as important as the beautiful wedding details. Katherine and Andrew's reception was a perfect reminder that a wedding is about more than a beautiful venue. It's about celebrating your marriage with the people who mean the most to you.

Nighttime Wedding Photography at The Stanley Hotel

Ending the evening with nighttime wedding portraits at The Stanley Hotel was one of my favorite parts of Katherine and Andrew's wedding. I mean, come on. It's THE Stanley Hotel! The historic architecture and unmistakable atmosphere make this Estes Park wedding venue an incredible backdrop for dramatic nighttime wedding photography. Night portraits offer something different from daytime wedding photographs, creating cinematic images that highlight the venue in a completely new way. For couples getting married at The Stanley Hotel, setting aside a little time for nighttime portraits is a wonderful way to take advantage of the hotel's unique character. Between the spooky setting and Katherine and Andrew's personal style, these portraits were the perfect way to finish documenting their wedding day.

From The Shining ceremony programs and ceramic ghosts to the sentimental lace from Katherine's mother's wedding dress, their colored-glass unity ceremony, four different types of pies, and a dance floor full of their favorite people, every detail told a little piece of their story. Their wedding was the perfect blend of spooky, romantic, elegant, and fun, and I loved every minute of photographing it.
